Geography is all about being active in looking at the world and how people interact with their landscape. Geography will help pupils to develop their skills as global citizens. All aspects of the course offer opportunities for working together and trying out new ways of learning. All pupils will study a wide variety of topics and classes will have the opportunity to choose some of the areas which interest them the most.
In S1 – S3 pupils will study a variety of human, physical and skills based units including:
- Map Skills
- Rivers & Flooding
- Climate Change
In S4-6 we offer N4 to Higher Geography. In senior phase Geography courses are split into three units:
|1. Physical Environments||2. Human Environments||3. Global Issues|
|Glaciated Uplands||Urban Developments||Climate Change|
|Weather & Atmosphere||Development Indicators||Geography of Disease|
In all certificate courses pupils have to complete a research assignment on a topic of their choice. N5 and Higher have an exam based on the three units while N4 has end of unit assessments that are marked in-school.
In Advanced Higher, pupils study fieldwork skills and write a portfolio consisting of a fieldwork research study and an essay discussing different viewpoints on a contemporary geographical issue.
